Cashmere Sweater Size Guide

Use body measurements to choose a standard cashmere sweater size. Use finished garment measurements to compare a sweater you already own or prepare an OEM or private label specification. This guide explains both methods and reproduces CashmereCustom’s current XS–XL reference chart in inches and centimetres.

Quick answer: Start with the chest measurement. If you are between sizes, compare the intended fit and the product’s finished measurements instead of relying on the size label alone.

Choosing a standard size? Use body chest and waist measurements, then check the intended fit and any product-specific finished measurements.
Comparing a favourite sweater? Lay it flat without stretching. Record shoulder, half chest, sleeve, body length and hem width.
Developing a private label range? Confirm the point-of-measurement definitions, base size, grading rules, tolerance method and approved sample.

01 · Preparation

Before You Measure

First decide whether you are recording body circumference or finished garment dimensions. Do not mix the two: a flat half-chest measurement is not the same as a body chest circumference.

01 Use a flexible tape

Keep it level and comfortably close to the body. Do not pull it tight.

02 Wear light clothing

Bulky layers can add volume and make body measurements less consistent.

03 Record your preferred unit

Write down inches or centimetres and keep one unit throughout the specification.

04 Note the intended fit

Record whether the sweater should feel slim, classic or deliberately oversized.

02 · Measurement points

How to Measure a Cashmere Sweater

For size selection, measure the body at the chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve and back length. For garment comparison or production, lay the sweater flat and record the defined finished measurements without stretching the knit.

Body measurement points A simple body outline indicating chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve and back length measurement positions. Chest Waist Shoulder Sleeve Back length
  1. Chest / bustMeasure around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, with the tape level.
  2. WaistMeasure around the natural waist without holding the tape too tightly.
  3. Shoulder widthMeasure across the back from one shoulder point to the other.
  4. Sleeve lengthMeasure from the shoulder point to the wrist with the arm relaxed.
  5. Back lengthMeasure from the base of the neck down to the preferred sweater length.
Keep measurement definitions consistent: body circumference and flat garment width are not interchangeable. A production specification should name the point, method and unit used.

Measurement terminology reference: for formal anthropometric terminology used in clothing size development, see ISO 8559-1:2017 — Anthropometric definitions for body measurement. This guide does not claim conformity with the standard.

Reference Cashmere Sweater Size Chart

The table below reproduces the XS–XL values published on CashmereCustom before this redesign. Chest and waist are ranges; length and sleeve are single values. Because the original chart does not label every value as a body or finished garment measurement, confirm the product-specific chart before purchase or production.

Size Chest Waist Length Sleeve
XS 32–34 26–28 22 23
S 34–36 28–30 23 24
M 36–38 30–32 24 25
L 38–40 32–34 25 26
XL 40–42 34–36 26 27

Values shown in inches. Chest and waist are shown as published ranges; length and sleeve are single reference values.

Source and scope: reference values carried forward from the CashmereCustom size guide and checked on July 28, 2026. This page is an educational sizing reference, not an approved production tech pack.
Production note: treat this chart as a reference, not an approved manufacturing specification. Confirm finished garment measurements, measurement methods and tolerances for each style.

04 · Silhouette

Choose the Fit Before You Choose the Size

A size label does not define fit by itself. Yarn, knit structure, sweater shape and intended ease all affect the finished silhouette, so compare measurements as well as the label.

Closer silhouette Slim fit

Use body measurements and compare them with the product’s finished measurements before choosing a close fit.

Everyday reference Classic fit

Allows a more relaxed outline and room for a light layer, depending on the style specification.

Intentional volume Oversized fit

Should be designed as an oversized silhouette rather than achieved only by choosing a larger label size.

05 · OEM and private label

From Reference Size to Production Specification

For OEM or private label cashmere sweater production, ENHE Cashmere needs one agreed measurement system. A reference chart becomes a working specification only after the points of measurement, base size, grading rules, construction and tolerance method are confirmed.

Cashmere Sweater Sizing Questions

How should I measure my chest for a cashmere sweater?

Wrap a flexible tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, and keep it level without pulling it tight. Record the full body circumference in one unit.

Are the XS–XL values body or garment measurements?

The published reference combines chest and waist ranges with single length and sleeve values. For accurate selection or production, confirm whether each product chart refers to the body or the finished garment.

What if I am between cashmere sweater sizes?

Compare the intended fit and the product’s finished measurements. A well-fitting reference sweater can provide a more useful comparison than the size label alone.

How do I measure a sweater for OEM or private label production?

Lay the sweater flat without stretching it. Define and record each point of measurement—such as shoulder, half chest, sleeve, body length and hem width—along with the unit, base size, grading rule and tolerance method.

Can ENHE Cashmere develop a custom size chart?

Custom and private label projects can start from your measurement chart, tech pack, target fit or reference garment. The final production specification should be confirmed through the sample review and approval process.

07 · Next step

Standard Reference or Custom Size Development?

Use the reference chart for an initial comparison. For a commercial collection, send the intended fit, size range and available specification so the production route can be reviewed.
